Ethical Savings

Bath and North East Somerset Credit Union offers a savings scheme that is fair and ethical, contributing to the ecomonic regeneration of Bath and North East Somerset.

We are a not for profit organisation, all income generated from the interest on loans

is put straight back into the organisation, helping the local community.

Your money is completely safe. We are regulated by the Financial Services

Authority who regulate the high street banks. Your money is not invested in the stock market.

The organisation is run by its members, for its members.

Children's Savings

Children can save directly with the Credit Union, or they can take part in the Money Munchers project (Subject to availablility). Children who are members of Money Munchers receive a piggy bank to save their pocket money in. They can then empty their piggy banks during the weekly collection at their school. Each deposit earns the child a reward sticker, and a reward gift for regular saving.

Children also receive their savings pack with the Money Munchers logo (our hungry caterpillar) and a birthday card each year.

The children are able to withdraw their savings at any time through the collection at the school.

The children receive a tax free dividend each year on their savings.

Christmas Savings Club

Launched in January 2008, members will be able to save regularly through standing order,

collection point, or through payroll deduction (where available). The savings

will be locked away until November 2008 when they will be issued to members.

The money is 100% safe, there are no risks to this popular way to save for Christmas!

Argos and Homebase stores are offering a 5% top up scheme exclusively for

BANESCU members.

Each time you top up your card with savings from your Credit Union account, Argos or Homebase

will add 5% to the value. You are then able to use the card as full or part payment at Argos and Homebase stores.

e.g Add £100 to your card and an additional £5 will be added.

This benefit is completely free of charge.

Affordable Loans

If you have found it difficult to get credit from the high street banks, we may be able to help you. We charge a flat rate of 1% interest per month on the remaining balance of your loan. This is substationally lower than that of door step lenders who can charge up to 182% APR.

Any member is eligible to apply for a loan once they have demonstrate that they have saved regularly for 8 weeks.

Example

Borrow £200 over 1 year = £4.10 per week and pay only £12.78 interest over the whole period of the loan

Borrow £500 over 1 year = £10.24 per week and pay only £32.10 interest over the whole period of the loan

Borrow £1000 over 1 year = £20.47 per week and pay only £64.27 interest over the whole period of the loan
